Let’s Talk About Where We Actually Are

Thousands of you have verified your account on Shipfinex. That’s a group of early believers who want ship ownership to become open, transparent, and accessible. You signed up not for hype, but for something real. You’ve been patient, and you deserve clarity on what stage we’re at.

So here’s the straight update:

We’re close. The first ship is in final due diligence, the Shipfinex Wallet is going live soon, and we’re getting the last pieces in place.

This newsletter walks you through what’s been happening, where things stand today, and what you can expect next.

No noise. No predictions. Just facts.

So, What’s Been Going On Behind the Scenes?

Tokenizing ships isn’t like listing a commodity or launching another marketplace. Shipfinex is writing the playbook for tokenizing a multi-million-dollar ship into fractional ownership. We’re building something that hasn’t existed before and building it the right way takes time.

We could have rushed a beta, gone live earlier, and patched issues later. But when capital, ships, regulatory oversight, and trust of industry and customers are involved, shortcuts are expensive and often irreversible. For us, “launch fast and fix later” seemed irresponsible.

So yes, it’s taken longer than we hoped. And yes, we know many of you have been waiting. But the reason is simple: We chose secure over fast, transparent over convenient, responsible over flashy.

This is the foundation everything else will stand on:

Your wallet, Your Ships, Your Ship Ownership.

The World’s First Tokenized Ship - Soon on Shipfinex

Our first ship is now in the final due diligence stage, currently being assessed by independent third-party maritime inspectors. Their job is to grade the ship’s condition without bias, and their credibility depends on being brutally honest.

Here’s what we can tell you today:

Blue graphic of a Handymax bulk carrier ship with text: "Length 189.99m, Gross Tonnage 32,839, Idwal Grade 79." On blue background.

The ship is a Handymax bulk carrier, ~190 meters long (about two football fields), 32,839 GT

  • Operates in the tramp trade, meaning it moves where demand is highest, transporting essential dry bulk cargo like grains, minerals and fertilizers.

Initial inspection returned an Idwal Grade of 79. For context, Handymax vessels of similar age average around 75. Think of Idwal like a rating agency for ships, a higher score generally reflects better overall condition.

Vessel quality benchmark chart on blue background. Shipfinex scores 79, exceeding industry average of 75 by 4 points.

But here’s what you need to know?

Maritime performance depends on markets, charter rates, fuel costs, maintenance cycles and global trade conditions, variables you need to check.

What it does indicate is that this vessel is above-average for its class and age and stands a better chance of attracting good business, which is a good starting point.

This is the factual update, no speculation, no projections.

Going Live Soon: The Shipfinex Wallet

Your Shipfinex Wallet is almost ready to go live. This will be a self-custodial wallet, which means ownership stays with you and you alone, not with Shipfinex, not with a third party. You control your assets and capital directly.

Before wallet activation rolls out, here are the three things you should know:

1. Self-custody means full responsibility: During setup, you’ll answer three recovery questions. These are your only way to restore access to the wallet. If a recovery phrase is lost, access cannot be recovered by anyone, including Shipfinex. Control comes with freedom, but freedom comes with responsibility.

2. Built with layered security: The wallet will connect securely across our payment gateway, KYC verification layer, and blockchain ownership records. Each transaction is independently validated across multiple checkpoints to ensure safety and traceability.

3. Activation is for verified users only: Wallet access will unlock only for accounts that have completed KYC. If your KYC is still pending, your wallet activation will remain locked until verification is completed.

Before We Close

We’re close to turning this from an idea you believed in to something you can finally use. Wallet activation goes live soon. The first ship listing is in its final independent due diligence stage. It has taken time, but the pieces are lining up, visibly.

What we can tell you is this

We’re building slowly because we’re building for longevity. Ships are being vetted by independent experts. Ownership rails are designed to be transparent, compliant and secure. And we’d rather do this right than rush a launch to claim a headline.

The next phase begins with the Shipfinex wallet. If you’re verified, you’re ready to step in. If not, there’s still time to verify your account. Complete your KYC at Shipfinex.com.

Until Next Time,

Team Shipfinex
